2020 Rolex Shanghai Masters Sadly Cancelled |
|
The award-winning Rolex Shanghai Masters which is hosted at the amazing QiZhong Tennis Centre, will unfortunately not be staged this year. The tournament which began in 2009 would have been celebrating its 12th edition as Asia's biggest and most successful men's tennis tournament. It is the only ATP Masters 1000 held outside Europe and North America.
"We are obviously very sad and disappointed that due to the global coronavirus situation we will not be in a position to hold this year's Rolex Shanghai Masters which was due to be played 10-18 October," Tournament Director Michael Luevano said.
"The world is in crisis and as much as it hurts us not to be able to hold the event, we also acknowledge the need to play our part in helping communities overcome the situation. China has done a tremendous job in containing community transmission of the virus and remains vigilant in this as well as those of potential imported cases.
"We are obviously not the only major sporting event in this situation, and we extend our thoughts to all those affected by the decision."
Alison Lee, Executive Vice President ATP International Region added: "Shanghai is a favourite stop for ATP players on the international tour and they will certainly miss competing at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, just as much as the fans will miss seeing them play.
"However, they will be back in 2021 and knowing how the tournament team like to continuously improve their event every year, I'm sure both players and fans will be treated to the best ever Rolex Shanghai Masters next year."
Daniil Medvedev is the defending singles champion with Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares the defending doubles champions. The Rolex Shanghai Masters has been won by Novak Djokovic (4), Andy Murray (3), Roger Federer (2) and Nikolay Davydenko (1).
The Rolex Shanghai Masters looks forward to welcoming the world's best tennis players and all our guests in 2021.
